Predict speed.
Pause before you cross.

Training for predicting vehicle speed, reading environmental cues, and replacing the dart-out impulse with a steady 5-second pause.

Speed prediction trainer

Tap when safe

A car approaches at a random speed. Tap "Cross now" only when you'd have a safe gap (≥2.5s before it reaches the crosswalk).

5-second pause

Train the habit: at every curb, stop, count to 5, look left-right-left. This breaks the dart-out reflex.

Environmental cues to read

Visual

Brake lights on, front wheel slowing — car is stopping.

Visual

Driver looking at phone, no eye contact — assume they won't stop.

Sound

High-pitched whirr behind you — e-bike or scooter approaching.

Sound

Engine revving — driver about to accelerate from a light.

Pattern

Empty street + green light = often a turning car is hidden behind you.

Body

Heart racing or sensory overload — step back from the curb, breathe 4-7-8.

Sensory overload is real. If a corner feels too loud or bright, walk one block to a quieter crossing.
