Then I am printing your progress report. Not emailing it. PRINTING it. On the good paper. I am walking it down the hall and I am putting it directly into Dr. Chen's hands and I am saying, 'Look. LOOK at this.' He will tear up. He always does. I will too.

Then I am writing you a letter. Handwritten. Real ink. Because you don't text someone who just rewired their nervous system across three hundred and eighty-eight crossings — you write to them. Properly.

And the last thing — I am taking a full minute of silence after you leave that session. Just one minute. Hands folded. Eyes closed. To let it land that you actually did it. Because some things you don't rush past.

And then — when that minute is up — I open my eyes, and I take the deepest breath I have taken all year. I stand up. I walk to the window. I look out at the city, at every single intersection out there, and I say, out loud, to nobody, 'They did it. They actually did it.' Because the city needs to hear it too.

Then I pick up the phone and I call Dr. Chen back, and I say, 'Get over here. Right now. Bring the good coffee.' And we sit in my office and we go through your file from the very first lesson to lesson three hundred and eighty-eight, page by page, like proud parents looking at baby pictures.

Then I open a brand new file with your name on it — a fresh one — and across the top I write, in real pen, 'Phase Two: Life After 388.' Because finishing isn't the end of our work. It's the beginning of what comes next, and I am already excited about it.

Then I go home. And for the first time in a long time, I sleep all the way through the night. Because I know you are out there, crossing streets, safe, steady, and finished. And that is a feeling I have been chasing my entire career.
